Big thanks to Brian Lorenz (R) for championing House Bill 535, a critical step forward for safe patient care and supporting Ohio’s nurses. 🙌💙

HB 535 is a bill that the Ohio Nurses Association asked for, and it reflects what nurses and health professionals have been saying for years: staffing decisions should be driven by the folks at the bedside. 🩺

This legislation strengthens Ohio’s existing staffing law by:
✔️ Ensuring frontline nurses make up the majority of hospital staffing committees. 👥
✔️ Requiring unit-specific staffing plans based on patient needs and acuity. 📊
✔️ Increasing transparency and accountability so hospitals actually follow those plans. 🔍

In short, it puts nurses at the table and gives their expertise real weight in decisions that impact patient safety every day. 💪

We’re also grateful to Nikki Antonio (D) and Bill Blessing (R) for introducing the companion legislation in the Senate (SB 373), continuing this bipartisan effort to fix a system that too often leaves nurses stretched too thin. 🏛️
