ONA maintains a Political Contributing Entity (PCE) (also known as
a political action committee or PAC) which is another vital part of
any successful legislative program.
Unless specified otherwise, $1 per month of each member's dues goes
to fund the PCE. Campaign contributions are then made to candidates
who are supportive of nursing's legislative agenda. Typically over
$130,000 is allocated each year through the PCE so that nursing can
maintain or enhance its political connections.
Districts are active partners with the Health Policy Council in the
candidate endorsement process. District members interview
candidates, make endorsement recommendations, sponsor candidate nights,
and attend legislative fundraisers - all of which help increase
nurses' visibility and influence at the Statehouse.
